Barefoot with windows open – A poem

Barefoot with windows open

Photo copyright Sue Angle

“Barefoot with windows open”

The things that tear
the heart out of us
are sometimes
very small

limping dog
sleeping child
baby bird
that didn’t
quite
make
it

The little sorrows
will always find
their way in

like sand
in your shoe
flies in the
kitchen

So we might as
well be moved
by the ten thousand
tender moments –

gasp in awe
at the brutality
of caring –
at the loss
that a single
day can bring

And go barefoot
with windows
wide
open
